Board-Certified Neurosurgeon
Dr. Ali H. Mesiwala is a board-certified neurosurgeon specializing in the development of novel technologies and minimally invasive techniques for both spinal and cranial surgery. He is a fellowship-trained expert in complex spinal procedures, including deformity correction and revision surgery, as well as disc replacement operations. With more than 75 percent of Dr. Mesiwala’s cases now performed in the outpatient setting, he is focused primarily on optimizing the patient experience, reducing recovery time through minimally invasive techniques and improving outcomes.
Since 2004, Dr. Mesiwala has performed more than 8,000 operations in private practice, including more than 750 minimally invasive sacroiliac (SI) fusions, 1,000 disc replacements and 850 spinal cord stimulator surgeries. He now performs more than 200 disc replacements annually, primarily in the outpatient setting, and has one of the largest and most comprehensive sacroiliac practices in the world.

Dr. Mesiwala earned his Bachelor of Science degree in Biomedical Engineering from The Johns Hopkins University. After earning his medical degree from the University of California, San Francisco, he completed his surgical internship and neurological surgery residency at the University of Washington, where he was appointed Chief Resident of Neurological Surgery. Dr. Mesiwala completed neurological skull base and cerebrovascular fellowships at the University of Washington, International Neurosciences Institute in Hannover, Germany, and the University of Pittsburgh. Before establishing his own practice, he was the attending neurosurgeon at Cedar-Sinai Medical Center.
As a respected researcher who has authored more than 50 peer-reviewed articles, book chapters and abstracts, Dr. Mesiwala has shared his expertise on several radio and television segments. He has received numerous honors for his research efforts, including a grant from the American Brain Tumor Association and the National Research Service Award from the National Institute of Neurological Disorders and Stroke.
Dr. Mesiwala is an active member of the American Association of Neurological Surgeons, American Medical Association, Congress of Neurological Surgeons, The Pituitary Network, Trigeminal Neuralgia Association, and Indian Medical Association.
Outside the operating room, he is a philanthropist with a passion for helping others. Dr. Mesiwala lives his life to the fullest, enjoying travel, wildlife photography, nature conservation, food, automotive projects, emerging technology and spending time with his family.
